How your website and social posts connect to Google Maps
I look at your Google Maps presence, your Google Business Profile, your website, social media and AI chat together. They all matter and all connect together. Keeping those places current supports your organic visibility, but a new website update or social post shouldn't be treated as a promise of a higher Google Maps ranking.
What I mean by organic visibility
Organic visibility means helping people find your business without paying for an ad placement. For a service business, that includes how you show up on Google Maps, what someone learns on your website, what they see on social media and how your business appears in AI search like ChatGPT.
At Protocol Text, based in Lincoln, Nebraska, that's the umbrella for our work. There's a lot of other stuff we do, research, strategy, execution, but it's all under the umbrella of organic visibility.
I don't look at those places as separate marketing projects. A person might find you on Maps and then visit your website. They might see a social post and look up your business afterward. Each place needs to help them understand what you do.
What should you check across your website, Maps and social media?
If you own a service business, I'd start by looking at the information a person can actually find. Before deciding how often to post, check whether your existing pages and profiles explain your business clearly.
- Check your business details. Make sure your name, contact information and service area agree across your website and profiles.
- Explain the services you want people to find. Someone shouldn't have to piece together what you offer from scattered posts.
- Update information that has changed. Use website updates and social posts to share something useful, rather than changing a page just to make it look recent.
Those are practical starting points, not a ranking formula. Being clear and current gives people a more useful picture of your business wherever they encounter it.
Why we focus on organic visibility instead of ads
We don't run ads, though I do think they have their purpose. I think over time they've eroded a lot of trust. That's why our work is all organic.
For a service business owner, that means our focus is on the places people use to find and learn about your business. It also means looking beyond one post or one website change. I wouldn't expect results right away or use a single update to judge the whole effort.
